Understanding Dance

Dance is a rigorous and specialized area of the performing arts, demanding a high level of physical preparation as well as a thorough understanding of aesthetics.

The dictionary defines dances as “To move rhythmically usually to music, using prescribed or improvised steps and gestures." It is an art form that generally refers to movement of the body, usually rhythmic  and used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in  a spiritual or performance setting.

Dance is a way of knowing and communicating. All societies use dance to communicate on both personal and cultural levels and to meet physical and spiritual needs.

First Presentation:

All Art forms have very strong relationship with each, other not only by their characteristics but through their feeling as well. Like poetry, painting, sculpture, photography, set design, dance, theatre, movie making, and music and above all the mother of all art Architecture. The connection between dance and architecture is not the new concept. Both form of arts like architecture and dance share similar bond of structure and function being well connected. This thesis looks at discovering the unifying elements within performing art specifically dance and using them to create continuity in architecture paradigm.

Dance, by definition, is “a conscious effort to create visual designs in space by continuously moving the body through a series of poses and pattern tracings.”
